Winter Lynx

By: Noah Merideth

Soft pads in the moist collage of leaves slowly turning brown,
I look to see droplets of ice from the sky,
slowly encasing the ground in a seamlessly unending blanket of white.
It is a new season.
The moon rolls by and I see I am no man, nor wolf, not even fox, but lynx
as I lay down for a long winter’s nap.

Interview with 7th grade senator Ethan Hoch

7th grade senator Ethan Hoch

By: Brendan C. Wilson

Ethan Hoch’s background is that through his school career he hasn’t been in trouble or has had bad grades. He has lots of influential support form his family. He also has a quote “friendship is the key” from all of his friendship support. His family is his main influence. As a seventh grade senator he goes to teen court as one of the judges. The teen court is hosted by the Juvy (Juvenile Detention Center). They bring in people that have done bad things and decide what the punishment is, so the person doesn’t do bad things again. Ethan Hoch feels very strongly against using the words gay and retard as an insult. He says they have no choice to be or not be one of these things. He feels there is no point in saying these things around the people who are these things. By doing this, it may lower their self esteem and self value. Ethan doesn’t like to be vain, but he does one thing above standards, and that would be his leading skills. He feels it gives him the ability to give instructions in a fair and justly manner. This is Brendan C. Wilson signing off.

We Want Your Work!

Submit original content to our site or linked sites.  We need stories, poetry, essays, artwork, photography, news stories, reviews, recipes, interviews, etc.

The theme for this month's holiday blog is Thanksgiving:  send us your poems, stories, essays, or photos.  Have an interesting family tradition?  Let us hear about it.

Our main blog theme for November is Bullying.  We are looking for descriptions of real experiences  (you can remain anonymous) and any creative work related to this topic.

We would also love for students to submit their favorite holiday recipes along with pictures.  If you have a description of why the recipe is special or a short story about a time when you made the food or a time when you shared it with family or friends, those are welcome, too.

Want to interview someone special?  A fellow student?  Teacher?  Administrator?  Staff member?  Parent?  Community member?  Submit your interview, personality profile, or short biography (with a photo) if you have one.

And last but not least:  we want your reviews.  Restaurants, books, music, movies, products...you name it!

Please make sure that all content submitted is original work.  Work can be submitted electronically (to Mrs. McBride's school email:  mmcbride@portangelesschools.org) or can be submitted to her mailbox in the office.  You can also submit the work to your language arts teacher, and they can get it to her, as well.  Who knows?  Maybe you can even get extra credit for it!

Work will be accepted on a regular basis, so if the above topics don't suit you, check back.

Great Spirt Week!

Stevens 7th and 8th graders did a wonderful job during spirit week!
We saw many costumes that were great!
Red and white ribbon week is now over, but we're still going to be drug free!
We had a lot of fun seeing all of the students' magnificent outfits and we hope you did too!
